salon SHAME

What is Salon Shame:
Salon Shame will be held in week 43 (end of October) of 2024 at The Noart Farm and is an interdisciplinary gathering on the theme of shame. We bring together 3 artists (Peter Land, Birgit Bjerre and Noelia Mora Solvez) and 2 philosophers (Tone Dandanell and Anders Ruby). We will explore the topic of shame together during an intense week where we will live, eat and work together.

All in all, we facilitate a week-long intensive meeting where we will focus on the dialogue between the participants and between their disciplines. Salon Shame is a unique initiative designed to promote interdisciplinary dialogue and exploration centred around the theme of shame. The goal is not to generate a diversity of ideas, but rather an in-depth examination of the complexity of shame from different perspectives. Through the coming together of artists and philosophers, we aim to create an environment conducive to introspection, discussion and collaborative enquiry. In other words, we strive for a sustainable ideation practice that promotes not quantity, but in-depth exploration that can resonate with participants.

Why shame:
Shame is a self-critical emotion that can affect anyone. Shame is also a control and social restriction that helps make social spaces work. It's an emotional mechanism that can be both incredibly destructive on a personal level and limiting in society, but without it we couldn't live together and function socially. Shaming is also prevalent in contemporary society in both traditional and new social media. Here we allow ourselves to throw mud at each other instead of engaging in a real democratic dialogue. This aspect was of particular interest to the participants of Salon Shame. Therefore, we expect that the exploration of media shame during the working week will act as a relevance driver and become one of the focus areas.

At The Noart Farm, we plan to organise one salon a year where we facilitate artistic and philosophical exploration of socially relevant topics through interdisciplinary meetings. Salon Shame is the first one and it will serve as a learning experience for the organisation.  That's why we have also chosen to work with experienced artists and philosophers such as Peter Land and Tone Dandanell.
We look forward to presenting the process results of the salon in Aarhus in November, so we can start a dialogue with artists and institutions about future collaborations and salons.

In November 2024 we have a 4-week exhibition period at SE! Space in Aarhus. Here, works in progress and sketches will be exhibited. These works/sketches are the result of one of our first projects, Salon Shame.

All works in progress and sketches have shame as their theme.
During the exhibition period, we will also organise dialogue meetings at the exhibition space, both with artists and artist-run spaces in Aarhus, as The Noart Farm values collaboration and being part of a network that can support each other and share resources for the benefit of artists and philosophers.

We have currently initiated collaborations with Captive Portal (KBH), Earthwise residency (Mols), SE! Rum (Aarhus) and Kunstkiosk 44 (Samsø). We want to exchange experiences with places and artists and philosophers in Aarhus and see what we can offer and help each other with.

For example, The Noart Farm can offer space and time to work, we are not an exhibition centre. We could host a foreign artist or a group of artists who have an exhibition planned in one of the artist-run spaces in Aarhus, but no space to work towards the exhibition. Or we could have an artist in residence from Southern Europe who wants to meet and create a network in Aarhus based on their artistic work.
